On 8th of March 2024 Subterranean Street Society will be releasing their new album titled BLEEP

BLEEP is born out of a post-covid urgency to perform live. Where previous albums of the band were constructed in a more elaborate process, this album was written and recorded in well under a year. Eager to crank up the volume the band set out to write songs they could record live and take out on the road just as they are.

Trying to enforce limitations and diving into a more lo-fi Roots/grunge sound the band recorded their album on the Tascam 388. A 8-track DIY tape recorder from the late 80’s. Famously used among others on the early Black Keys records. The album was recorded at Moon Audio Productions in Utrecht and produced by the band's bass player, Ivo.

The result is an up-tempo folk-grunge album filled to the brim with a sense of urgency. Expect fuzzed-up bass guitar feedback, thin-can resonator dirt, hard-hitting harmony yelling, up-tempo garage drums and Louis’s signature raw vocal performance.

Lyrically, steering away from more personal themes, the album poses questions on the subject of war, smartphones, freedom of speech and polarisation. And thus being a reflection on the current times as Louis wonders in the title track ‘BLEEP: ‘Is Society the real cult’
